ok... I've been mum about this one for a bit, especially since what happened to me last time I opened my trap about what's been going on in my life... but I can spill it finally and not end up getting reared on it.
As some of you may recall, I shared a story a few months ago about a job interview that went extremely well, and it looked like I had gotten the job.
What I shame-facedly didn't mention a week or so later, was that the company ended up filling two positions with one other candidate... the one I was up for included. I guess they did really like me, but keeping costs down by hiring one guy instead of two... blah blah blah. So I remained unemplyed, and kinda ashamed for having been over confident. I never brought it up around here again, except for two folks privately in emails.
WELL. Like they say, feast or famine. After the beginning of this year, I started getting a lot of phone calls... and I mean a LOT. I was hoping this would happen after the holidays, with companies figuring out budgets, etc. Needless to say, I landed a short-term contract job through a recruiter, and I started there last week. So money's coming in *WHEW*
Now the funny good-stress part. Day one of my contract, I get FOUR phone calls for other contracts... one a contract-to-hire to full time position. That was the coolest of them all too. So I worked a few things out, and did interviews on my lunch breaks, etc.
Well, I got the word today - I got the contract-to-hire position... AND they want me to start TOMORROW! (Seems the guy whose position I'm getting leaves Friday, and they want me to transition with him).
The stressful part now is that I have to break my contract, and my recruiter is freaking out. He's happy for me, but (and I understand), it puts him in a bind with his client. So I have to go into my contract gig tomorrow AM, and meet with my recruiter and the manager of the contract position and "discuss" it all. And regardless of what happens, I go over to the new place at 1pm to start working.
There's a lot more I won't bore you with... but the bottom-line: I FINALLY HAVE A FRIGGING JOB!!! The contract period is a "trial period" kinda thing, but they're very excited about me, and I'm very excited about working for them. They are a major marketing/adverising firm that has been around for over 30 years... and I'll be doing BOTH web design/development, and print design! It's EXACTLY what I want to be doing... more towards the creative again, and less of the development. It's a very fun and creative environment... and no cubicles!! I GET MY OWN OFFICE!!! I've never had that before!!!
So I'm really excited, albeit stressed over the other thing... but in the long run, I gotta look out for my family's and my own best interests. I call this good stress, because I'd rather be stressed over too many opportunites over stressing about how I'm gonna scrape up enough money for the month's bills... ya know?
Oh, and I gave them my portfolio on a CD, with examples, etc. in one of my two interviews with them last week... and under the "Personal Work" folder, I put in pictures of some of my customs (usually I don't do that... but they are creative folks, so I figured what the hell...) - they loved them! They asked a ton of questions about how I did them, etc. and who would be interested in them. I explained how the action figure collecting world is a HUGE market that not a lot of people know about (hard to believe for us, but true).
I doubt I'll ever get to make action figures there, but at least it helped nail my impression with them!
Oh, and now I gotta learn how to use a Mac (I'll get both a Mac and a PC to work with... since the designers are all Mac). I knew all those Mac vs. PC debates I used to have with my co-workers would come back to bite me in the ass someday...
Thanks for letting me rant guys. I appreciate all the support you've all given me in the past, and it means a lot to me!

Thanks guys!
Sorry for the long-winded description... some of it just wouldn't have made sense if I condensed it. Plus, I was a bit wound up when I wrote that, and I tend to go on when I get like that.
Thanks again for letting me ramble!
And madadman... I just may be bugging you with questions every now and then about them there Macs. Hopefully won't be too hard... I'm PC trained, so picking up a Mac should be like picking up an Etch-a-Sketch, right?
(Either one, if you shake them enough, they go blank... hehe...)
OSX here I come!
